Description
Roaming the North Country in search of Iron Ore can lead an intrepid young geologist into all sorts of adventure. James Byron Hustad was known as JBH had explored Minnesota’s Iron Range in search of underground deposits for US Steel in the middle of the last century. Equipped with his trusty “rucksack” he would often travel by canoe or float plane into secluded roadless areas. The Frost River Geologist Daypack is modeled after the pack that JBH carried on many of his explorations in the US and Canada, Brazil and Africa. He often basecamped for weeks during the summer, and was sometimes dropped off to explore uncharted claims. He lived a life of exploration, self-reliance, and survival that any adventurer could envy. This Geologist Bushcraft Pack is modeled after the classic knapsack design of a drawstring topped main compartment with a flap cover. They've added more volume over the knapsack, plus rugged bridle leather shoulder straps and brass Sam Brown Post quick-release front pockets. As with everything Frost River makes, handcrafted from waxed canvas, premium leather and solid brass hardware and backed by their lifetime guarantee.

Details
MADE WITHOUT COMPROMISE FROM THE HIGHEST QUALITY COMPONENTS BY FROST RIVER WAXED CANVAS FROM FAIRFIELD TEXTILES
Martexin Original Wax is an authentic American product that has stood the test of time and has outfitted American workers, farmers, explorers, fighters and outdoorsmen for many generations. The Martin family has been involved in the dyeing and finishing of textiles in the United States since 1838. It is the best canvas available, and Frost River stands behind it.

LEATHER FROM SB FOOT TANNERY
The leather in the straps and reinforcements come from the SB Foot Tannery in Red Wing, Minnesota. In 1872, Silas Buck Foot began tanning leather to provide high grade footwear for fellow Minnesotans to stay warm in the winter.  In 1905 the Foot family partnered with what will become Red Wing shoes. The partnership remains to this day.

RIVETED AND SEWN
The flapstraps on the canoe packs are double reinforced - riveted and sewn. The straps hold the pack closed and often bear the weight of the pack as it is lifted into and out of a canoe. They are relied upon and must hold, therefore Frost River ensures the security of the connection by both riveting and sewing it.

SOLID BRASS HARDWARE
All of the buckles, snaps, slides, and D-rings on Frost River packs and bags are solid brass. It matters because Frost Rivers’ products will outlast brass plating. Instead of turning steel grey the hardware will develop an old world brass patina. It’s the way it’s meant to be - and has a great sound.

DEERHIDE BUCKSKIN
Premium deerhide buckskin is used on Frost Rivers’ choppers, mitts and leather padded shoulder straps. It’s a supple, durable, and natural material that is sourced from wild deerhides taken during hunting seasons in the US. Most of the hides come from the Midwest. There will be some natural scars, scratches and imperfections in the leather. This is normal, and not a defect, adding character to Frost Rivers’ Reliable Softgoods.
