Silky Gomboy Medium Tooth folding Saw

The Gomboy with medium teeth is a multifunctional saw for different outdoor purposes. Whether you are sawing firewood for a campfire during your hike through the mountains or whether you are making a pot hanger to prepare a warm meal in the woods, this handy pull saw is an indispensable part of your equipment!

The Gomboy has unique teeth and saws on the pull stroke, which requires less energy and is easy to control. This does not only enable you to saw very rapidly through thick tree trunks, it also allows you to make a very precise sawing cut. That comes in handy when it comes down to precision, e.g. when making a trap or bow drill. In some situations you simply need more than just an axe or a knife.

This folding saw is compact, lightweight and can easily be carried in your backpack. In this way you are always in a position to saw wood, for instance when building a shelter or making a campfire in emergency situations. That is easier and faster than dragging branches around through the forest or collecting little branches from the ground, especially in the dark or when covered under a thick layer of snow.

Respect the nature and do not just saw in a healthy tree, but find a knocked down one or blown off branch instead. The Gomboy can easily handle wood that has gotten wet or was covered by a layer of snow for a long time.

The rubber handle of the Gomboy ensures a safe and comfortable grip. The hole in the handle offers the possibility to attach a carabiner or rope to the saw. The blade can easily and securely be locked in two sawing positions. When folded, the teeth of the Gomboy are fully concealed in the handle. You can therefore store the saw loose in your backpack. The Gomboy will be delivered in a transparent hard case with belt holder. The bottom is equipped with a notch and two holes to drain moisture and saw dust. 

The Gomboy range of folding saws are the sizes in between the Pocketboy and Bigboy folding saws. The medium tooth Gomboys are particularly useful for general pruning, carrying in the rucksack, a survival saw and some carpentry situations where a quick smooth cut is required.

How to use

Silky saws are designed to cut on the pull stroke. At the first stroke you place the pull saw so that the teeth that are closest to the handle grab the wood first. After the first pull stroke you slide the saw back to the starting position by a soft push stroke (without force). During the pull stroke the thin blade will not bow because there is no lateral tension. The blade just follows the cut. If the saw ever becomes caught, never push hard or wrench, this may lead to lateral tensions which can damage or brake the blade. Always lift the weight off the blade to release the saw.

The Silky saw guarantees a fine kerf and requires little force. Do not burden. Like your grandfather always said: let the saw do the work. You will feel less tired and it lengthens the life of the saw. When you see the sign of impulse hardening the saw is impulse hardened and cannot be filed with the Silky file. You can recognize it by the black teeth tips, caused by impulse hardening. You can slightly control the wood loss by the place where you hold the handle:

• Close to the blade: there is relatively little pressure on the blade. The saw will take the least wood, making you able to saw in a highly controlled manner and with precision.
• Further from the blade: there is more pressure on the blade. The cutting action is maximum, but less precise.

Silky is not responsible for any damage caused by improper use.

Maintenance

• Treat your saw with love. The blade must be kept clean, otherwise the cutting action will be lost. Resin dissolves in olive oil, which is an effective and environmental friendly way to maintain the blade with. Be aware that if you use more aggressive liquids it can damage the rubber material of the handle.
• When not using the saw, make sure it is dry at all times. Store the saw in its scabbard in a dry place.
• Keep out of reach of children.
