The Survival Tabs have a long history evolving from the early space program. Back in the 1960's the Federal Government was searching for a food source that could be used in specialty situations. The resulting research was extremely involved and intense, and the product that evolved was used in the early space program. Eventually, a tablet was perfected and used widely as an emergency food. The Survival Tabs will keep you alive and moving for months at a time, on the amount you can carry in your backpack. The recommended consumption of 12 tabs per day may be decreased when other foods are available in adequate amounts and quality. And that's not all. The reason The Survival Tabs are so effective, is that they are literally jam-packed with concentrated nutrition. The protein Survival Tabs use is only of the highest quality. The Tabs have been produced and packaged to last at least 10 years. They've accomplished this in several ways. Number one, they have compressed the tablets with thousands of pounds of pressure with specialised tablet presses. Oxygen and moisture, the arch-enemies of food, cannot penetrate the tablets to destroy the ingredients. Number two, they use a heavy-duty, opaque bottle to pack the Tabs. The bottle does not allow either light or outside oxygen to penetrate and deteriorate the product. Number three, the closure is a specially designed screw- type lid which, along with being screwed tight on the bottle, is sealed with tamper resistant tape.

Taste good, nothing packs better

I keep them around for situations where I'm not packing cooking gear or if I want to be extremely low-profile and light-weight, like a solo couple-days hike when you are on the clock (nothing packs better).
<br>They actually taste pretty good (specially compared to your traditional "emergency food tables" as found in marine survival kits, and all those nasty, sugar-ridden options, my children thought it was tasty enough to ask for another round.
Great lightweight solution

Picked the chocolate flavour up for multiday hikes. 12 tablets = ~2400cal, so a solid solution. Flavour is totally fine, like eating a tablet of Nesquik. Texture is fine and no chalkiness or residue. Kept me going during a trial for a 2n/3d hike in SEQ. Very long shelf life if unopened, but ~90 days once opened. If going the larger packs, suggest splitting out and re-vacuum sealing into smaller quantities. All up, happy with this solution for my bags, hikes, and emergency kits.

The description makes it sound like 12 tabs a day will keep you alive indefinitely, providing 100% of your daily dietary requirements. Another review posted here (incorrectly) states that 12 tabs contain 2400 calories. 12 tabs actually contain 240 calories. The caloric benefit of 12 tabs is only about 10% of your daily energy requirement.
<br>I thought a bottle was basically a 15 day supply of emergency food.
<br>The tabs are about 9x20mm, and hard. They aren’t so hard you’d break teeth, and crumble fairly easily. They are like a spoon of nesquik with a pleasant flavour. Not chalky and not too thirst provoking.
<br>Overall, while I’m a little disappointed that they aren’t what I thought they were (2400 cal per day on 12 tabs), but that’s on me.
<br>These are great value for what they are, and once the other flavours come back into stock, I’ll be adding several bottles to my prep supplies.
